Abstract
A comprehensive approach to the dynamic modelling of a 2 MW DFIG wind turbine is shown. In this first part mechanical issues are addressed. In a following second part the electrical system and generator will be analysed. Six cp curves from literature are considered. Demonstrating two simple control strategies, the need for a deeper analysis of the dependance of the cp curves on the gearbox ratio and radius is shown. This dependence is analysed then. A suitable speed control strategy is developed. The matching cp curve, radius and gearbox ratio is chosen. A realistic rotor inertia is chosen. The generator inertia is computed.
