  • Abstract
    As far as a permanent magnet excited electric machine is concerned, cogging force affects the performance of motors. This paper aims at analyzing and calculating the cogging force of a cross-shaped core linear device, a novel type of permanent magnet excited transverse flux linear synchronous motor (PMTFLSM) that can be widely used in automatic manufacturing. In order to analyze the cogging force, a finite element method will first be applied in this study to obtain the magnetic field distribution in the air gap. Based on the derived distribution, the cogging force caused by the permanent magnet will further be calculated. This study will present the impacts of various motor parameters on the cogging force, such as the ratio of permanent magnet width to magnet pole pitch, the width of slot pitch, air gap length, and so forth.
