Abstract :
In this paper a torque capacity improvement method for the three-phase full bridge converter based switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive is investigated. The concept of DC assisted winding operated with ordinary bipolar AC winding for the conventional two-phase excitation is applied and compared to the previously proposed two-phase excitation drive system. The optimal switching angle and amplitude of the current in DC winding are identified. The improvement on torque versus speed characteristic curve of tested machine, 1.5 kW, 3-phase, 6-stator-pole and 4-rotor-pole SRM is verified by the experimental results.
