Abstract
Presently, a series of facilities with an output power of one to ten terawatts and an output energy of one to several megajoules are being built or already in operation. These are the Sandia Laboratories PBFA I facility in operation and the ANGARA-5 facility (first phase with 1-MJ output energy and 90 ns pulse duration) built at the I. V. Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy (IAE). A number of other facilities scheduled to be built during this decade will have an output energy from 3.5 to 10 MJ—sufficient to initiate a thermonuclear micro-implosion.
