Abstract :
Concentration of methanol (MeOH) solution is measured using a shear horizontal surface acoustic wave (SH-SAW) sensor. In this study, the SH-SAW sensor is applied as a MeOH sensor for a direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC). Bubbles are generated at high temperature and the sensor responses are influenced. By circulating the MeOH solution, the influence of the bubbles reduces. The long time stability at different flow rate and temperature are measured. A formic acid is generated during the electrode reaction in DMFC. To reduce the influence of formic acid showed that high frequency SH-SAW sensor must be used.
