Abstract
Some applications of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) like two dimensional acoustic or visual target localization require specific sensing coverage degree (SCD) to ensure accuracy of their results. It is necessary to accurately measure required SCD and maintain it for more power saving. This paper presents a new distributed technique to accurately measure the SCD of any point in a dense wireless sensor field in two-dimensional space. Two different mappings are presented that the first one is appropriate for boundary mapping of common intersection areas of neighbor nodes of a sensor node in polar coordinate system of it and second mapping is proposed for area mapping. Proposed mappings can be used for accurately specifying common intersection areas between sensor nodes and measuring the SCD of these areas.
