Abstract
In this paper, we propose a 3D model retrieval system using sketch queries. The 3D model is described by a single characteristic view with the biggest exposure opportunity. The sketch query and the characteristic view are divided into several parts. Each part is quantized into a Fourier descriptor, and the spatial arrangements of these parts are measured by the graph spectra. Our contributions are as follows: (1) We propose a new characteristic view, namely, the Biggest Exposure Opportunity View (BEOV) to represent a 3D model; (2) The details inside the sketch query and the BEOV are considered. Experiments were evaluated using the Princeton shape benchmark data sets. Our approach improves the retrieval precision and reduces the computational cost when compared with the National Taiwan University (NTU) 3D model search engine [1].
