Abstract :
In this paper we present the usual requirements for rotary electrical motors that are used in medical equipment; these requirements are highly relevant since they have a strong impact on the choice of the motor type to be used and on its design. Advances in the design of electrical micro motors and commercially available medical equipment that use electrical micro motors are also presented. The current status of the technology for standardized and high powered electrical motors for medical use is briefly discussed.
