Abstract
This paper resolves the acute problems of integration and losses in the outphasing transmitters using a non-isolated power combiner, based on λ/4 transmission lines (TLs). A design methodology that enables to minimize the losses in the power combiner and to improve its quality factor is developed. A fully integrated outphasing transmitter using a modified class D power amplifier (PA) is designed with its combiner and fabricated in 90nm CMOS technology. The proposed PA improves the efficiency and avoids the reliability issues in CMOS technology. The measured maximum output power and efficiency are 22.7 dBm and 34.1 % at 1.8 GHz.
