  • Abstract
    Objective: To observe the effects and mechanisms of acupuncture on the blood glucose and insulin in the obese rats. Methods: The obese rats were treated with acupuncture at acupoints Liangmen (ST21), Tianshu (ST25), Zusanli (ST36), Neiting (ST44), once a day, for 2 consecutive weeks as a therapeutic course. The effect of acupuncture on the lipids, blood glucose and insulin were observed. Results: In the acupuncture groups, the body weight, the levels of blood glucose and insulin in obese rats decreased markedly (p<;0.01, p<;0.05, p<;0.05). Conclusion: Acupuncture treatment can lower the body weight of obese rats and decrease their levels of blood glucose and insulin as well.
