Abstract
Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) has been receiving attention in the GIS community. The Open Street Map Project (OSM), which is one good example of VGI, includes the participation of worldwide users. OSM is creating a world geographic database that can be edited by anyone. Its activities have high social significance. We are researching the relevance of the information quality of information databases that can be distributed among the OSM community and the community activities of the process. As a first step, we compared the data of other regions and before the Great East Japan Earthquake to the Japanese data to analyze community activities. We identified the growth process of a community unique to Japan.
