Abstract
Developing a remote laboratory is a well-described process in literature. Many examples allow the scientific community to understand the design problems faced and the solutions implemented during their development. These examples also reveal that the development process usually follows one of two approaches: a professional one or an academic one. This paper compares the two approaches used in the development of a remote lab for projectile motion experiments. One team with two grantees followed a professional approach while another team with three trainees followed an academic approach. The paper aims to provide hints on how clearly distinguishing the two approaches, during the initial requirements phase, impacts the development process and how cross-beneficial aspects can be attained.
