  • Abstract
The Paper describes how Asset Management techniques are used on the GWML to deliver required condition and performance for three specific asset types namely track, signalling and earthworks. Western Route is treating formerly disparate asset groups as “Systems” to derive significant condition and performance benefits, better align maintenance and renewals activities and secure improved value for money. The Paper describes how ageing assets are being managed and renewed through Asset Management processes to support the £5bn modernisation and electrification of the Western Route which completes in 2019.
