Abstract :
This paper presents the results of investigation of possibilities to upgrade the existing plant for combined heat and power generation in Clinical Centre of Serbia, with a system for energy storage. This CHP plant is already connected to the public power distribution network in serbian capital, Belgrade. Therefore, analyses of CHP previous operation, load profiles of both generation and customers´ consumptions were done, in order to determine improvement possibilities, the most prospective technical solution and optimal operation of future, designed system for energy storage. The solution is based on the use of regenerative fuel cells, a tank for hydrogen storage and all other, necessary equipment, including power electronics. Concerning the fact that such devices still have very high capital costs, a detailed cost-benefit and sensitivity analyses were conducted, too. The goal was to determine the conditions required to achieve the system´s efficiency and profitability.
