Abstract
Rapid urbanisation introduces trends, which can best be tracked through actual household surveys. Having reported earlier on energy-usage patterns in the communities of Macassar and Kyamandi in 2009, this survey was conducted in Khayelitsha in 2012, paving the way for smart-grid systems aimed at saving energy in the residential sector of metropolitan Cape Town.
