Abstract :
An inhalation apparatus for calculating the number of doses expended from a Metered Dose Inhaler along with a mechanism to remind the patient of dose timings and also to calculate the effective dose inhaled by the patient, providing indications for further inhalations are required. Pressure sensor detects the pressure pulses and the microprocessor uses this data to perform the calculation required. The microprocessor displays the dose on a miniature display and drives a buzzer to provide audible indications for time. The disadvantage of existing propositions for MDI are dose counting and timing mechanisms offered in separate devices and no suggestions for calculating dose inhaled effectively by the patient. In this project valved spacer is used to calculate the absolute pressure developed inside the spacer without any environmental disturbance.
