Abstract
Smartphones are attractive platforms for researchers to collect data coming from several sensors which could prove useful for the pedestrian localization systems due to their small size, low cost, and the fact that they are already carried routinely by most people. Up to date, there is no technology robust enough which works anywhere, continuously and which was accessible to the people in general. In this paper we present an application call WAY, Where Are You, developed on a mobile operating platform which brings to the palm of the people hands a solution to determine their position and direction of walking in a continuous and transparent way wherever they will be, inside buildings, outside or in transit between them. The application smartly fuses complementary technologies such as Global Positioning Satellite Systems, WiFi, Quick Response and Near Field Communication tags, and barometer to provide an accurate estimation of the user position.
