Abstract
The optimum utilization of the links in LTE access networks is an important goal for mobile operators. In this paper, the effect of aggregating traffic from different eNodeBs is analyzed by observing different statistical parameters, in particular the link utilization and the multiplexing gain. It is observed that more than two levels of aggregation do not give a significant enhancement of the above-mentioned parameters. Also, the effect of aggregation on self-similar traffic is analyzed. In the future work, an analytical description of the arrivals is planned to be developed based on the Modulated Markovian Poisson Process (MMPP) which allows the prediction of the network load parameters by mathematical means.
