Abstract :
Power system stabilizers (PSS) are often used at the Excitation system (EPSS) but they can be implemented in the turbine Governor loop (GPSS) in order to improve more the stability. This paper studies the effect of the implementation of the PSS into the excitation and turbine governor systems on the enhancement of damping of power system oscillations. Obtained results, by non-linear simulation using Matlab/Simulink of a single machine infinite-bus power system, show the effectiveness of using both EPSS and GPSS at the same time (EGPSS) for large and small disturbances. Our results concern: rotor angle (δ), terminal voltage (Vt), electrical torque (Te) and speed deviation (Δω) for the four cases: open loop (without PSS), EPSS, GPSS and EGPSS.
