Abstract :
The research work aims to find a physical approach of standardized tests by exploring a relationship between the flashover voltage and the AC and DC bulk conductivities of insulating materials. Studied materials are used in high voltage electrical insulation. The effect of thermal aging on the flashover voltage was found in accordance with industry standards and regulations, the standardized tests results show a decrease in the flashover voltage. In other hand, the electrical volume conductivities of insulating silicone rubber were studied during thermal aging. The measurement results show an increase of AC and DC conductivities during thermal ageing. It was found that the flashover voltage is much lower when the electrical volume conductivities increase, so we can correlate the flashover voltage values to bulk conduction insulator.
