Abstract
Fuel cells of various types are considered as alternatives to other sources of energy mostly because of less pollution and better efficiency. The proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) has been considered as a promising kind of fuel cell during these years because of its low working temperature, compactness, and easy and safe operational modes. A Bio Fuel Cell (BFC) is kind of the PEMFC that converts chemical energy to electrical type. The chemical energy is supplied by glucose of the blood. The produced energy is mainly used in pacemakers, defibrillators, insulin pumps, drug delivery systems. This paper presents Bio Fuel Cell (BFC) with gold catalyst. In this paper the model of implantable BFC which was experimented by Krezenmacher and some others in an in-vitro medium has been simulated and fabricated using gold metal with thickness of 700 μm as catalyst in anode. The material of cathode is cloth Carbone, and the membrane is made of PVA-PAA, which is an electrically insulated polymer and it has the capability of diffusion in glucose. Impressive peak power density for BFC is 1.2 μWCm-2 between 115-125 m Volt. Simulations are done using finite elements analysis based on COMSOL 3.5 Multiphysics software.
