Abstract :
In Pakistan, a large number of consumer appliances are being severely affected by reduced supply voltage. It is being observed that consumers are being supplied with a voltage of 200V and in some worst cases 150V. Here in this paper I used MATLAB Simulink to simulate 11KV Guizar feeder of HESCO. By installing capacitors on L.V network (230V) means that reactive power requirement is compensated at the nearest point of load. It is a well known fact that capacitors may be installed nearest to the load but researchers have shown that capacitors on L.V network are not economically feasible due to cost and complexity of the control circuitry. This obligation can be avoided by using fixed capacitors of minimum requirements on L. V network in conjunction with the capacitors on 11 KV feeders and substation bus-bar. Agricultural tube-wells, flour mills and commercial consumers normally have a very poor power factor and do not pay power factor penalty. Fixed capacitors may be installed with loads controlled by the same main switch making them work as switched capacitors.
