  • Abstract
Automatic Generation Control (AGC) system is an important component of the power system for frequency control. Regulation performance of the large capacity generating units in the control area is closely associated with the development of AGC system. Therefore, to meet the safety of AGC and the efficiency of the generating units the regulation quality of the generating units which play the roles of peak regulation, frequency modulation in power grid should be regularly tested. According to the analysis of the dynamic process of actual generating power tracking AGC load instructions, a calculation approach of AGC regulation performance indicators based on the operation historical data from the power plants is proposed in this paper. In consideration of the transmission delays of information, the differences of regulation performance indicators calculation between generating units and grid dispatching center are analyzed. On the research of “two rules” implemented widely in China, the transmission delay time of AGC load instructions, the minimum retention time of effective instructions and the unit response moment are defined to calculate the regulation performance indicators more accurately. The proposed algorithm is applied to kinds of generating units in north China grid. The coincidence of the results from the approach and the actual AGC performance indicators verifies the validity of the proposed algorithm. The application of the approach is helpful to improves security and economy of power plants and power grid.
