Abstract
Cloud computing is emerging as the next big step in the design and deployment of an increasing number of distributed applications. On the other hand, smartphones are ruling the day in today´s Post-PC world and are emerging as better players in offering services to consumers. Concurrent with the widespread adoption of cloud computing, smartphones have been clubbed with the power of cloud computing, thus giving rise to a new term called the Mobile Cloud Computing. With the mobile cloud, users connect to their applications and data which reside on some remote data centers, instead of on their local mobile devices. Users pay only for the connection process and the services they access. This paper presents the design and implementation of construction and configuration of cloud infrastructure using Eucalyptus and KVM, and invoking a cloud service from an Android phone. The cloud service used in the case study is a Video on Demand SaaS streaming service which aims at playing a large video onto a mobile phone.
