My first year with a plug-in hybrid

In August 2010, I wrote for IEEE Spectrum about my first year with rooftop solar photovoltaics on my house in B oulder, Colo. After that article was published, I made a few energy-efficiency improvements, so my solar panels began producing 800 to 850 kilowatt-hours per year more than we needed. Selling that electricity back to the grid wasn??t too lucrative, so in 2012 I decided to get some flavor of battery-powered car.
