Abstract :
To accomplish the requirement of managing domestic necessities efficiently using limited resources and providing its residents a contented life the idea of `Smart Homes´ is getting popular day by day. As a consequence of this, the present houses are getting equipped with loads of consumer electrical appliances. To reap the full benefit of such smart houses, those appliances need to be integrated through an intelligent central system on which user have simple control. Addressing that demand, in this paper `Smart Box´ is introduced, which provides the user easy control over various household appliances. Moreover, with its manual, remote and timer mode of operation the `Smart Box´ provides the user a comfortable flexibility along with some smart features like programmability and adaptive automatic control. This paper demonstrates the basic features of the `Smart Box´ and also presents the details of hardware implementation by a microcontroller based embedded system.
