Abstract :
This research work targets to address the needs of new generation wireless technology for Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN) and Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPAN) including high-performance personal computers (pes) and multimedia equipment, utilizing short-range Gigabit Radios at 60 GHz. The issues involved in planning & deployment of wireless communications system functional at 60 GHz were analyzed in this paper by analyzing radio channel propagation characteristics in typical indoor environments. This study includes several onsite measurements using 60 GHz transmitter/receiver modules and modeling of similar environments using full 3-D Ray-tracing simulations of Remcom´s Wireless InSite and XGtd. Values of the Received Signal Strength (RSS) and path loss using horn antennas are presented along with the values of path loss exponent, channel capacity and number of access points inferred from the measurements/simulations to support high quality wireless multimedia data transmissions. This study also attempts to present the amount of attenuation in the indoor environment and to infer the values of Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) for brain tissues based on the RSS at 60 GHz.
