Abstract :
Spectrum sensing is an enabling technology for cognitive radios. Many sensing algorithms are proposed in the literature, but only a few real time implementation and analysis are reported. There are many challenges when we try to implement the spectrum sensing algorithm in real time. Fading and dynamic noise are major factors, which degrades the performance of sensing algorithm. Multi antenna technology resolves these issues by exploiting spatial diversity. This paper discusses the real time implementation and analysis of spectrum sensing using an energy detector in the indoor environment. Energy detector is the simplest low complexity algorithm but provides poor performance in indoor scenario where the scattering, fading and noise dominate the signal. Our implementation employs two receiving antenna based dual radio sensing and adaptive threshold values to overcome the above problems. Our approach improves the accuracy of sensing and reliability. Energy detector algorithm has been carried out in LabVIEW 2011 version and measurement was carried out using National Instruments PXIe SDR platform RF vector signal analyzer 5663. The two real time sensing system parameters namely sensing frequency and sensing time are measured and analyzed.
