Abstract
Research in developing countries is faced with many problems, with most institutions of higher learning characterized by low levels of research output. Many scholars are in agreement that collaboration in research yields a number of benefits, and could be seen as a means of promoting research systems and productivity in Africa. Many studies on research collaborations have focused on the developed world, with reference to the issue in developing countries mainly based on assumptions and generalizations that need verification. This research therefore is an in-depth investigation into the collaboration process within the scientific academic research community in Kenya. It seeks to understand the collaboration process and its facilitation, aiming at devising strategies for promoting computer mediated collaboration within the research community in a developing world context.
