  • Abstract
    Recent progress in space and wavelength selective switch technology is reviewed. Multi-port switch architectures allowing the simultaneous and independent routing of multiple wavelength channels are considered as a route to high connectivity optical interconnection. Monolithically integrated optoelectronic circuits facilitating fast nanosecond time-scale reconfigurability are presented. Comparisons are made with discretely populated demonstration circuits, identifying the challenges and opportunities for larger scale integrated circuits.
