Abstract
This paper illustrates a fault location method based on the analysis of the fault-generated traveling waves recorded at the observation point using the frequency slice wavelet transform (FSWT). The recorded transient traveling waves contain some characteristic frequencies associated with specific paths. And the fault distance can be calculated out by the characteristic frequency associated with the fault point. By simulation in a typical distribution system and comparing with the results of the continuous wavelet transform (CWT) analysis, the effectiveness of the method has been verified.
