Abstract
Mobile telecom services have tremendous impact on social and economic development of people of rural areas of developing and the least developed countries (LDCs). However, designing a mobile network architecture for rural areas of LDCs is a challenging task. In this paper, we propose a mobile network architecture for providing mobile telecommunication services in rural areas of LDCs. The proposed architecture is cost-effective, scalable and relies on open source technologies. We evaluate the performance of the system by measuring the call quality metrics such as mean opinion score, loss, jitter, and delay. We observed that proposed system is able to provide a low-cost alternative for voice communication in rural areas of the developing countries and LDCs.
