Abstract
The ongoing massive expansion of online education raises questions on the future of education: In what form will it survive? In our paper, prognoses on the development are outlined. They point to the following directions: 1. The volume of online learning will grow in both formal and informal education. 2. The importance of life-long learning will increase substantially. 3. The current educational system will have to react to it. Its reaction will follow two ways: The university education will in general become shorter - its substantial part will be executed over the Internet. The elementary education will pay more attention to “learning to learn” than to memorizing procedures and facts. 4. These transformations will be uneasy ones and may meet an opposition among educators and parents. The paper exemplifies a way of getting prepared to the change.
