Abstract
To be competitive and employable in a knowledge-based society, university graduates need to possess extensive communication skills, an ability to apply critical thinking, and the capacity for teamwork, flexibility and adaptability. This implies that the university teaching needs to shift towards use of more collaborative, reflective and experiential processes that would help students to gain the necessary skills. Online learning provides tools that support more student-centered, cooperative, collaborative methods of teaching, hence meeting the needs of teachers and learners in a knowledge-based society.
