  • Abstract
Energy efficient operation of mobile stations has been investigated since almost two decades because of their limited power sources. On the other hand, cellular network base stations obtain their energy from the power grid which was reasonably priced so that power consumption optimization was not needed. However power source prices increases day by day across the board as well as on ICT. Moreover, green energy source awareness of the society increases exponentially and governments start to change their power policies to promote green energy sources. Therefore, significant amount of recent ICT research efforts started focusing on green base station problems. This paper proposes a novel deployment algorithm which deals with both the heterogonous deployment problem using renewable power source base stations and the cell-zooming technique. Results show that power consumption decreases significantly hence reducing carbon emission rates and decreasing the expenditures of the operators significantly while sustaining acceptable performance in the form of spectral efficiency and coverage.
