  • Abstract
    In order to reduce the complexity and the time of motion estimation in H.264, a fast motion estimation algorithm based on H.264 is proposed. In this algorithm, suitable mode types are chosen according to texture characteristics of the macro block, and motion estimation is ended in advance according to time correlation of video images for each predication mode of the mode types. Therefore, the number, the complexity and the time of motion estimation are reduced. Experiments show that the algorithm could reduce the encoding time greatly without noticeable variation of peak signal-to-noise ratio and code flow bit rate.
