Abstract
In recent years there has been a growing demand on manufacturers to produce products at higher throughputs while maintaining low operational costs. A poor performance of the materials handling component in a flexible manufacturing system negatively impacts the material flow efficiency which creates bottlenecks in the manufacturing process. This paper discusses the development of an intelligence system tasked with optimising material flows in flexible manufacturing systems.
