Abstract :
A dual-band orthogonal-beam multi-standard composite right/left-handed (CRLH)-based planar loop antenna is proposed. It operates at two bands that cover several communication standards; 1.8 GHz (GSM/LTE) which corresponds to n = -2 mode where the radiation pattern is omnidirectional perpendicular to the antenna plane, and 2.4 GHz (WLAN/ Bluetooth /LTE/UMTS) which corresponds to n = 0 mode and exhibits omnidirectional radiation pattern in the antenna plane. The antenna is implemented in planar technology and is free from commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) components. Its area is 4.3 cm × 4.6 cm and it has a reflection coefficient better than -10 dB. Measurements and simulations are in good agreement.
