  • Abstract
    We report the validation of a fiber Bragg grating strain sensor directly in metallic structures. Two different tests are performed and the direct comparison between FBG sensors and electrical strain gauges is carried out. A constant measurement relationship between strain and reflected wavelength is found for our sensors and results are acquired and displayed in real time. This approach confirms the linear behavior of fiber Bragg grating sensors outside controlled conditions and permits their implementation in structural health monitoring applications.
