Abstract
A novel wideband unidirectional antenna for broadband wireless applications is proposed and investigated in detail. The antenna is composed of a grating, symmetrical dipole and a sectorized loop. The antenna and its feed network are printed on the same thin substrate mounting above a circular ground plane. The reflection coefficient (i.e. |S11|), radiation patterns and gain of the antenna are numerically investigated. It is shown that an impedance bandwidth from 1.68 GHz to 3.53 GHz for |S11| lower than -10dB is obtained. The antenna has stable, unidirectional radiation pattern with average gain of 7.04 dBi within its impedance bandwidth. Because the antenna can cover the bandwidth of different wireless communication systems such as DCS-1800, IMT-2000, WLAN-2400, WiMax and LTE, it is suitable for indoor base station applications.
