Abstract
The environmental crisis the world is facing today requires an innovative approach to ensure sustainability. It is widely recognized that Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) are crosscutting technologies. This paper explores the role ICTs can play in promoting environmental sustainability in Tanzania. The paper provides an overview of the environmental crisis in Tanzania and discusses ICT policies in relation to environmental sustainability and finally highlights the potential of ICTs in promoting environmental sustainability. It is argued that in order for ICT to play its role in ensuring environmental sustainability, Tanzania needs to have a stand-alone policy that will guide proper utilization of ICTs towards environmental care.
