Abstract
Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is well suited for observing the sea surface regardless of the time of day or cloud conditions, and the polarimetric information provides an effective way to describe the scattering characters of the sea and the objects on it. In this paper, we analyses the potential for compact and dual polarimetric SAR data in maritime applications, including shoreline extraction, ship detection and oil spills detection, results of H-α decomposition are regarded as characteristic parameters in our experiments, and the properties of scattering angle α and entropy H are investigated in detail, their physical significances are also interpreted. Radarsat-2 images at C band are used to demonstrate the validity of the proposed method.
