Abstract
The paper describes an overview of the existing and future market for wireless remote patient monitoring applications, and presents the differences between the most well-known implementations, i.e., WMTS and WLAN. There are presented results and useful information from official reports and reliable sources, such as Frost & Sullivan and AAMI, results which revealed the clear evidence of continuing investments in this field. Though the WMTS technology has an history in medical telemetry systems, the wide used today WLAN networks proved to be sometimes more reliable, less expansive and much easy to integrate with existing medical devices and infrastructure for patient monitoring and assistance in hospitals. The paper contains representative charts and new information, which are very useful for future research, technical development in medicine and valuable reference.
