Abstract :
A design of frequency reconfigurable printed monopole antenna is presented in this paper. The antenna consists of disc patch fed using a microstrip line. Two RF PIN diodes are inserted in proper locations for frequency reconfigurability. Three switching cases are considered. The first case (all switches OFF) results in a single-band operation at 3.52 - 5.28 GHz with impedance bandwidth of 40%. The second case (one switch ON) results in shifting the band to 3.4 - 4.9 GHz with impedance bandwidth of 36.14%, whereas the third case (all switches ON) offers a dual-band operation, at 1.81 - 1.92 GHz and 4.56 - 5.3 GHz. The advantage of the proposed antenna is that two dual-band operations or one wideband operation can be achieved using the same dimensions. The antenna covers several wireless communication applications as LTE, Wi-Max, WLAN, etc. The antenna is analysed using CST Microwave Studio, fabricated and measured. Measurements and simulations show good agreement.
