  • Abstract
    Voltage balancing of series connected high voltage insulated gate bipolar transistors (HV-IGBTs) can be implemented by the active control on the time delays of gate signals. However, because of the extremely small time scale of the HV-IGBT´s switching process and the harsh electromagnetic environment of the series connection system, a high performance and high reliability control circuit is required for the active voltage balancing control. In this paper, a digital signal processor (DSP) and field programmable gate array (FPGA) based control circuit with high sampling frequency, fast control respond and strong anti-EMI capability is designed for the active voltage balancing control of series connected HV-IGBTs. Experimental results verify the performance of the control circuit.
