Abstract
Measured losses of a high speed permanent magnet synchronous motor, designed for 30 kW at 30 000 r/min, with active magnetic bearings and surface-mounted magnets, operated with filtered inverter pulse-width modulation (PWM), are presented. The losses mainly consist of air friction losses, stator iron losses, stator copper losses, magnetic bearing rotor iron losses and additional losses due to stator current harmonics. These losses are estimated with analytical calculation and compared with experimental results.
