Abstract
The most popular device for recording light fields is the plenoptic camera, a system including both a macroscopic lens and a microlens array. We argue that the macroscopic lens can be omitted without compromising light field resolution, drastically simplifying and shrinking the system. We then discuss the limits of miniaturisation and practical fabrication issues.
