  • Abstract
This paper introduces a MAC protocol MORIF (Modified Response and Immediate Forwarding) for the full-duplex star network, which consists of coordinators and end nodes. The protocol defines the routing, advanced requesting and immediately forwarding mechanisms, which help a lot in solving the existing important problems, such as hidden terminal, congestion and high end-to-end delays. By modeling with the OPNET software, we come to a conclusion that, in star wireless networks with saturated load, FD (full-duplex) technology increases the throughput to 85% of bandwidth, which is 3 times of that of HD (half-duplex) in our simulation. In the meanwhile, FD can keep the collision rates as low as 1% of that of HD. Compared with HD, FD would double the optimal network capacity. The simulation results show that MORIF could exploit the potentials of full-duplex.
