Abstract
The design of alerting systems integrating various technologies (mobile, satellite, navigation), capable to reach anytime and anywhere population, is becoming of absolute importance for management of tomorrow crisis situations. In this respect, the paper explores the design implications arising when alert messages are sent over Global Navigation Satellite Services (GNSS). Extensions of GNSS system to transport alert messages are presented. The performance evaluation given at the end of the paper shows the efficiency of the design system in terms of average alert message delivery delay and confirms the potential of GNSS systems for future alert applications.
