Abstract
Barrier coverage is an important issue in wireless sensor networks. In this paper, we study the problem of how to find barrier gaps in weak barrier coverage and mend gaps via sensor rotation where the network consisting of line-based deployed directional sensors. We first propose a gap finding algorithm to find all sub-barriers and barrier gaps in the network. We then propose two algorithms to mend barrier gaps. The simple rotation algorithm rotates two critical sensors in two disconnected sub-barriers to fix the gap in between them. The chain-reaction algorithm rotates sensors of a sub-barrier in a chain-reaction manner to mend a gap. Simulation results show that the two proposed algorithms can effectively mend barrier gaps and improve the probability of a barrier construction.
